I also think it would be a grave mistake to regard Biden and Trump victories in the election as analogous. Terrible things will happen if Trump wins which absolutely won't happen if Biden wins and I think people shouldn't lose sight of this.
No analogy being drawn between Trump / Biden election wins. The point being that if Trump loses in November he and his supporters will in no way accept the result (he has form for this!) and I would foresee widespread public disorder that would make the events of Jan 6 pale into insignificance - hence chaos. Furthermore Trump can't accept defeat for purely legal reasons as his run at the presidency is basically an attempt to avoid facing up to possible convictions and jail time.
Thanks for clarifying, I was misunderstanding what you meant. I agree that Trump wouldn't accept losing in 2024 and still hasn't for 2020, despite the 60+ law cases claiming voter fraud brought by MAGA lawyers only achieving 1 very minor success. I also agree that it's high likely that he's only running to try to avoid further prosecutions and has no real interest in running the country.
Of course, he didn't have much interest in running the country first time around, spending 1 in 5 of his work days playing golf, which apparently cost the American taxpayers more than $140m! His enduring popularity is completely mystifying in so many ways...
I saw that the widow of the bloke who was sadly killed in the shooting received a call from Biden but declined to take it because her husband was such a staunch Republican (MAGA in other words). Trump on the other hand hasn't bothered to get in touch...
I've read that, too, Worcs. I think the political scene in the US has now gone way past any kind of normality. Like anything associated with Trump it has descended into a surreal circus of divisiveness and chaos, with the narrative being constantly manipulated by the Murdoch media machine in his favour. Trump has thrived in this environment where there's no longer any verifiable truths, just events that are bent whichever way to further his cause. As well you know it's an object lesson in how fascism gains traction.
And now that they're making him to a martyr and/or some kind of super-hero following the shooting, both MAGA and the media will be leaping on any criticism of him as being distasteful or encouraging violence against him. I'm genuinely worried sick about everyone and everything should he become President again.
Worried sick about everyone and everything? Mate you need help. Bloke is a dick but this thread is hilariously OTT.
How did we all survive his last presidency? The same as we will his next.
