Swift has a year left on his deal. Given that he will be on a big contract having arrived on a Bosman, along with approaching 30, he's one I'd happily move on. He's a talented player but I think we could get someone in who contributes just as much for probably half the contract he's likely to be on.

Swift has flattered to deceive here really. Reading fans said he was inconsistent but I think he showed greater consistency for them than he’s managed to with us. Another that may have had better numbers with a more effective striker in front of him, but given he will be another ageing set of legs on decent money we need to look at moving on.
I think I could accept a season of mid table transition this year provided I saw progress on the squad. It will be very difficult to ship out big money “quality players” and replace them with younger, cheaper options and maintain the same level of performance and success. As long as we have some shrewd recruitment and show signs of improvement I think a mid table finish wouldn’t be the end of the world.
