I have a very good friend whose surname is Gbadebo - father's a Nigerian, mother a Geordie - who has forever claimed he was a Nigerian Prince and his sister a princess. Well, as it turns out my mate - whose father split from his mother early in his life - was contacted by said pal when he was in his early 30's and got invited over to Nigeria. Lo and behold his dad WAS a Nigerian Prince and he and sister were treated royally for the week; dances, parties, dinners celebrating their return to the homeland, trips to the ancient family home (not a castle).

The only downbeat aspect to, ahem Prince Gbadebo's title is that there are apparently thousands of quite legitimate Nigerian Princes - so he's not quite as special as he thinks he is. Still, it's not necessarily the prefix for a scam it always appears!
