However, we now need to turn our attention to the next Test. I'd be inclined to keep the same side that started this Test, fitness dependant (Robinson appears to be a doubt? If so I'd being in Tongue over Anderson, controversially). I would give serious thought to dropping Bairstow and bringing in Foakes. I believe Johnny's form with the gloves is now impacting his batting - his confidence is shot.
He was phenomenal last summer and is a fantastic batsman, but I feel a short break will do him good.
Crawley wouldn't be anywhere near the side but we all know he's got a spot for life as long as Rob Key is involved in the set up.
Poor series so far? That's a very strange take given we have had 3 extremely close games against the best team in the world. Your dislike of the way we play under Stokes really does cloud your judgement. We've won 12 of the last 15 tests under him, we are seeing some fantastic games, tickets are selling out for all 5 days.
The criticism of Root yesterday by you is a clear indication of your bias. He has got out with the flick down the leg side a lot in his career. This wasn't a baz ball shot. He has actually improved his average whilst playing under Stokes so how can you say he's under performing under him?
I understand the frustration that old school cricket fans have about the style. There are times when we should reign it in and I think we did that this Test. However, we are at the point now that every wicket taken is blamed on the style and its getting ridiculous.
