The instance in question, Marnus was batting out of his crease to try and mitigate a moving ball, thus gaining advantage of it. Bairstow was attempting to run him out/stump him, but Marnus dragged his foot back in anyway. All aware, all normal cricket stuff. YJB even stood up to the stumps when Jimmy was bowling later to stop Marnus batting out of his crease. If the Aussies haven’t got the bottle to warn the batsman that that they will try to stump him it’s totally against the spirit of the game. If Carey was that concerned he should have sto up to the stumps to stop him, just like Bairstow did.
In the case of the Bairstow wicket, he wasn't trying to gain an advantage. But it's still stupid, and it's excellent from Carey. Like I said, I don't particularly have any issue with it. You're correct, the moral outrage about the situation is absolutely ridiculous.
Bairstow was not trying to take advantage of anything he was going to talk to his partner.
No matter what any of you think it’s totally against the spirit of the game, the Aussies only think this was ok because they did it. If the boot was on the other foot there would have been outrage.
So let me know if you are/were equally outraged by the Foakes/Balbirnie ''stumping''. I am sure you found that disgraceful too!
Balbirnie was overbalanced from the process of playing a shot. They're totally incomparable.
Why? Both batsmen left their crease, both were stumped.
This is what I mean about "spirit of the game". We're just creating differences to try and be outraged. (not specifically you, I've seen this argument on Twitter a lot too).
Balbirnie hadn't completed his shot, he was still in the position of playing it and the umpire's we're still watching. Ba
Bairstow had left the ball, umpires had walked off, unclipped Green's cap and then Carey has thrown the stumps down once Bairstow has tapped his bat and moved away. Aussies have doubled-down this morning and said it was pre-meditated.
I'm not creating a difference, it is difference. I genuinely believe there are very few "spirit of the game" issues these days. Other than 'mankads' this is as bad as it gets and is really poor form to do without so much as a warning.
Still, it's a good job they did it, half an hour of Bairstow with Stokes and we'd have won that game.
