Sandwell Councillor defects to Reform
Indeed. I'm still waiting for an intelligent response as to why Israel should even contemplate negotiation with any party whose position is the eradication of Israel.

Maybe that’s because the debate isn’t about negotiation it’s about the extremity of the response. Genocide.

So when you ask an intelligent and relevant question you might then get the relevant intelligent answer.

The Palestinian Authority (who is meant control the West Bank) is committed to a two state solution. That must be why things are so fantastic in the West Bank.

Oh wait, actually the people in the West Bank are plagued by violent settlers, which the Israeli state not only does nothing to deter, but instead plans on building more settlements.

Aside from that, disputes over territories, and the existence of states are fairly standard events in international relations. By your argument, several major conflicts would have never ended as the parties would have never entered into negotiation.

And as Glassdoors says, whatever has occured is still no justification for genocide.

Yes, but western progressives don't care about any of those disputes as much as they care about Palestine, do they? I wonder why that could be.

It's an interesting question, but one that is perhaps easy to answer. Media generally pays close attention to what happens in that region, particularly Israel.

If the media gave as much attention to what is happening to the Roihaga people of Burma, for example, 'progressives' might get more excised about that situation. But they don't.

Is our government funding Sudan? Is our government sending weaponry to Sudan?
Does our government and opposition parties have significant proportions of people denying the suffering in Yemen and handwaving it away claiming Yemen has the right to defend itself?

Citizens from Sudan and Yemen require visa entry and part of that entry criteria would be background checks on military history including complicity in war crimes. Whereas genocidaires from the IDF are allowed to walk the streets of the UK.

Would the government and media claim that not allowing football hooligans from Sudan and Yemen to attend a football match in the UK was a terrible act of discrimination?

You know the answers to all these questions. Besides which, if you care about Sudan and Yemen so much, feel free to start a thread on it.

Shabby - our government doesn't support or sell arms to the junta Burma, whereas our government is directly supporting the genocide in Gaza.

I look in on this thread from time to time and little to nothing changes. One thing has been confirmed though. The disproportionate response has, as predicted, led to even less chance of peace and there are now more attacks on Jewish people all around the world. The best answer might well be difficult, but it never was going to be found by bulldozing Gaza from the map.

Except Squid, even in times of relative peace progressives seem far more concerned about Israel than they do about any other foreign policy. This has been a common theme for all of my life. It really amazes me that the most consistently oppressed people in the world seem to be the target of your ire.

And it’s no surprise you divert into that when everything Squid says is bang on and there really is no defending it.

Hold that.
