The Americans arrive: appoint someone with very little experience of English football who goes on to become omnipotent club president. The football man at WBA, Mark Miles, is eased out. In come some unknown tech millionaires again with zero experience of English football. Spivs or experts?
During the tenure of the President Nestor, who talks a good game, we appoint a complete dud in the dreadful Uncle Tony. He then goes on to appoint the unproven, untried Ryan Mason, who no doubt came relatively cheap and is unlikely to rock the boat. Recent form is chequered to say the least.
Again during the tenure of the President we sell to anyone who comes knocking generally at prices lower than anticipated. We understand that this has to happen for sustainability rules but there seems to be no upside to our negotiations. The sale of Palmer for just 2m in January was mystifying and continues to hurt us. Heggem is sold for a windfall amount but the owners can't wait to get our prize asset winger out of the door to harvest more cash. In Nestor's recent interview he reported that he actually met with young Tom in January to explain they wanted to sell him. What message does this say to the player, his agent and his family? No wonder his head dropped in the second half of the season, although Tony's mishandling of him didn't help.
The owners clearly have stated their wish to find gems in the sand and sell on at a profit. Perhaps this was the motive with the Ryan appointment? We seem now seem devoid of ambition on the playing field. Are we also in the boardroom?
Returning to the title of the thread is it possible that they are not competent in doing this or could it be they have no real desire to see us promoted and are here to fatten the cow for other than the club's benefit? I obviously have no concrete evidence for either scenario and am merely playing devil's advocate as I hold no opinion ether way.
