Trump

Netanyahu has given Trump effusive praise in the Houses today in his speech and she didn't bother attending. She is due to meet him tomorrow though against a backdrop of protests on the streets and the hard left of her party wanting change to their policy regards the war (one Dem Representative in the lower chamber holding a placard calling him a war criminal while he spoke).

Meanwhile, she's drawn a line in the sand on abortion which could easily go both ways with the crazy US electorate.

Trump has been uncharacteristically quiet today aside from on Truth Social which no one really reads. He must be getting good counsel at the minute. That said he's got a rally today in North Carolina so there's still time.

He also praised Biden. She missed his speech because she had a pre-arranged speaking engagement - Vance also missed it but strangely none of the Republican politicians criticised him.

Her views on abortion match the majority of people in the US as has been demonstrated in numerous votes since Roe v Wade was overturned.

The main group of people in the US who are opposed to how the Govt is dealing with the conflict is muslims. Other than that, for many Americans foreign issues aren't of much interest (ironic for the self-proclaimed leaders of the free world), although there are very vocal factions of course. It's hard for anyone to plot a safe course through this. Netanyahu is effusive about Trump because, as with Putin and Ukraine, Trump would let Netanyahu do whatever he wanted to Palestinians. Whilst he's still President I think it's for Biden to deal with Netanyahu, without Kamala treading on his toes.

As Zin says, a sizeable majority of Americans are generally in favour of abortion - it's approaching 2:1. Democrats are banking on many women regarding the erosion of abortion rights, translating into Republicans taking away women's control of their own bodies, as being a top issue for them. Plenty of Republicans, including Trump, nonsensically claiming that Democrats abortion policy going so far that they allow babies to be killed after birth. The more evangelical they get, the more Republicans are actually in favour of also making birth control illegal, which is insane of course, but it never takes long to get to that with MAGA...

I believe that's a bit of a gimme for the Democrats. They are better taking that line, because it's the majority opinion, and to be indecisive would be selling out much of their base.

Yesterday the FBI Director (Christopher Wray) testified to Congress: "there's some question about whether or not it's a bullet or shrapnel that hit [Trump's] ear".

The report from the physician(s) at the hospital where Trump was treated hasn't been made public and it's looking like it won't be.

During a speech at a rally of his Christian cultists called “Believers for Trump” last night, Trump said:

"You have to get out and vote. You won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years, it will be fixed, it will be fine. You won’t have to vote anymore my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. You gotta get out and vote. In four years you won’t have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not gonna have to vote."

Those who think "it doesn't really matter if he wins, it'll only mean another 4 years" probably ought to reconsider

He also said “I’m not a Christian”. Which should bother his hardcore Christian fanbase, but almost certainly won’t

That's surprising actually. I'd assume he'd just say he was to appease the base. I think it's well known that he's not religious anyway.

That's because he thinks he's God.

I didn't include that because I wasn't 100% clear that he said "not".

Regardless of what he says it should be obvious to all that he's not, but the cultists just see what they want to see.

He says stuff like that but is it actually doable without full on civil war?
