It's The Ashes (again)

On pitches which have been brutal to bowers in baking hot conditions mainly

688 test wickets at 26

I'd say he's worth another go wouldn't you?

In the right conditions, yes. But my point is that you're surprised people are questioning his selection, but I think there's justification for his inclusion and justification for questioning it.

Personally I'd have selected Tongue. But I'm not anti-Anderson, I just don't use his legendary past to judge whether he should be selected, I concentrate on the here and now.

Sentiment should play no part in this. I do question whether he'd be included if Old Trafford wasn't the venue. We'll never know.

It's not sentimental on my part Bob, he's the best swing bowler in the country, we just need a track with some grass and a bit of cloud cover

You don't become a bad bowler overnight, time waits for no man but he's long way from that

He's had 2 mediocre tests, talk of sentimental selection and being finished etc you would think he's barely picked up a wicket in the past few series not 2 tests on featherbeds

Whether England win at OT or not, I doubt Anderson will play at the Oval.

Traditionally the Oval wicket suits the quicker bowlers

That will be Tongue's opportunity.

England say “we’re going with the same side that won at Headingley, except we’re bringing in the guy with 680 wickets for the injured guy” and people are like “this selection is MENTAL”.

How dare you even think that?

Anderson has never taken a Test five-wicket haul at Old Trafford.

Anderson has also not been on the winning side against Australia since 2015.

Time to correct these starting tomorrow!

Australia as expected go in without a front line spinner.

Warner, Khawaja, Labuschagne, Smith, Head, Marsh, Green, Carey, Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood

Rain for the weekend, so they have strengthened(?) the batting line up to make it tougher to be bowled out twice in what maybe a truncated test match.

They'll also have an over rate of about 8 an hour. Carey batting at 8... jesus
