Awful is harsh, but he's already cost two boundaries by failing to stop byes. I've no doubt Foakes would have caught the deliveries and prevented the runs.
The blame isn't Bairstow's to brunt. He's not a wicket keeper and is doing his best. Blame the idiotic selectors who continuously omit the best available wicket keeper. It's bloody ridiculous.

The first one he had no chance with. The second one flicked the pads, and he nearly got there, so fair enough, Foakes probably stops it.
Jonny is average as a wicketkeeper, he isn't awful. But he isn't Test standard.

I think Foakes stops both. He takes up a better starting position. Bairstow has just taken a great catch from Wood's 90mph bowling and plenty of swing.
Awful is harsh but he's capable. However he does cost wickets and leaks runs a proper wicket keeper would take and prevent. It's frustrating.
Some spell from Wood.

Wow a couple of you love to have a pop at Bairstow, who is by no means a bad keeper who’s given hell by some of you so called experts. He had no chance of stopping those but of course some will make out he should.
Why can’t you just support the boys instead of constant unwarranted criticism.

That bye from Wood just now was impossible to catch. Even for Stretch Armstrong.

Awesome bowling from Wood!
Also 15 extras for the Aussies ...more than 25% of runs so far.

Not including a proper specialist keeper is the main reason we lost at Edgbaston and Bairstow has currently cost at least 8% - very arguably 16% - of the Aussies runs as of this reply.

Such a shame Wood needs to be managed for his fitness, he's a fantastic bowler.

Another wicket gone down that Foakes would have taken. ECB's selection has really cost us dearly. Prats.
Again, I don't blame Johnny. He's not a true wicket keeper. The blame is solely on the selectors.

Tough chance but you'd back Foakes to catch that. Would have been huge getting Smith out early as well.
