I know I need to get my gait measured and I can get some more synthetic socks, but in the short term I can’t wait for them to heal entirely. So will a combo of decent plasters and tape be sufficient? Looking to put an Amazon order in ASAP so I can keep my 3 x 5k a week going. TIA.
Don’t buy cheap socks. I only buy CEP now, expensive but have always lasted me and don’t lose any elastability. Not much will prevent blisters on longer runs but you shouldn’t get any on 5k. Are your trainers too loose?

I haven’t run for 2 weeks almost, bloody gout.

Did 5k this morning in 22:18. Fastest I’ve done for a while. I was running a lot in lockdown but only really playing 6 a side currently so I’m happy with that and will try and push in and cover some longer distances again

I feel like they’re pretty tight, tighter than I’d probably tie shoes when I’m not running. My only other thought is I’ve barely been wearing shoes for any length of time the past 2 years being at home, and my feet have become far too lovely and soft? (Smersh). Either way, I’ll certainly look at better socks but I do need a short term solution so any specific plasters/tape you’d recommend?

Phone Mogga about protecting lively soft feet. Can’t say I’ve used plasters and only tape I use is KT tape which is designed for a different use than protecting against blisters. There must be anti blister plasters you can get though these days?

Yeah the compeed cushioned ones seem to be recommended on a few sites I’ve browsed, but about a fiver for 5 so not exactly cheap, and they’re more for treating blisters than preventing them. Think a combo of better socks, tape and potentially even tighter shoes might all help, thanks!

Got out for 5 miles this morning, which given my knackered ankle and festive excesses I’ll take.
Got a plan to run every third day and up my distance every third run. That should get me up to where I need to be by the end of Feb. Think I’m going to be training right into the half though, no tapering or anything.

Got a time in mind Duffers? Still chance to get a decent 6 week training block in if your ankle allows.

PB is 1 hour 52, would love to get near that but realistically I’m not in the same shape I was a few years ago. Haven’t done a proper race since the Birmingham half in 2019. Will settle for just getting round and might book another in for later in the year to have a better crack at a time.

Woke up with a horrendous cough cold (thanks kids...) so going to have to leave my blister to heal for a few more days at leaset. Having gotten back into it and it being easier than I anticipated and already having hit 6k, I've worked out a route to get me up to 10k. I obviously don't want to rush it, but should I keep doing my route and improve that time, or add the distance and walk when I really need to but up the overall distance?

Personally I’d focus on getting the distance right then look to improve your times.
