Trump and Christianity
#11
In terms of Christian support, Trump speaks of anti-"woke" (ie anti-homosexuality "trans" stuff, racial critical theory) and stuffs the Supreme Court to unseat the Roe v Wade abortion decision etc, pro guns and reverence for what would be a 50s version of the American Way. This speaks to mainly I think the weird fundamentalist Protestantism that has flourished a sort of de facto American nationalist creed. They can forgive Trump as they say he is "an imperfect vessel" but does good work.

That is not what other denominations necessarily think. I was always interested and amused at the vitriolic rows on the Christian Pipe Smokers site over matters theological.

What does the Bible say about that?

Oh to be a fly on the wall of some of the newsrooms who know far more about all this, but are forbidden from printing it. I think a lot of shady deals we’ll never, ever know or hear about - at a very high level - are being done with a lot of haste right now.

Even back in the 00s, a close mate of mine working a local rag around here knew of a story involving a (very) well known ex-footballer celeb presenter/pundit that would make your eyes water. Oddly enough it wasn’t the reason he isn’t in the public eye anymore, but those were indeed the days of the super injunction. Having access to that sort of protection saved his arse big-time.

I think all that’s protecting Trump - besides having his own Supreme Court with its own freedom to redact - is that men from both sides of the political spectrum would be up to their necks in it. We don’t know a fraction.
