XG and stats

I know this has come up before but the last 5+ games has had me amazed at our XG stats. What is clear is that we rarely create many guilt edge changes and often have a much lower XG than you would expect and also we often find ourselves on the wrong end of the XG which points back to our finishing being below par and expectsions which I think is fair and remains a big main issue.

We played pretty well tonight against strong opponents with our crowd behind us, we need the crow more behind us on Tuesday than tonight!!

Some positives for sure and we did have a good few out injured so let’s hope a few wins to come.

We had a higher xg than Boro last night and lost. The Xg stat does my fucking head in. Totally pointless.....

I wouldn’t say it’s totally pointless but it is hugely overused and often misunderstood.

What worries me about Ram-ball is that his Minnesota team scored goals/picked up points from few chances, implying that they converted well. None of our strikers, perhaps the fluctuating Maja aside, can hit a barn door.

xG across a period of games can offer a good insight.

I prefer to look at the number of high quality individual openings and chances we create.you can have an xG of 1.2, only have 3 shots but they all be 0.4 xG which is pretty much as clear cut as you get which means you've been efficient in attack.

Where you could have 1.8 xG but you've had 29 shots and it's just accumulated xG.

We haven't for quite some time created enough high quality opportunities, I feel this will change under Ramsay in the same way it did under Val and CC. Hopefully the players are good enough to take those chances sn
