Adebajo from Luton

To be honest I am not sure what a few people want?

We are a club in the middle of a major budget cut, trying to reduce the age of our squad, and are desperate for a CF, which is traditionally the most expensive position to fill.

I have seen the usual drivel on the social media sites about lackkng ambition signing Lanky on loan. I have seen a few stating that Adebayo might not be up to it.

So if a well thought of youth prospect who's bagged in the Europa League isn't good enough, and a player who fired Luton to promotion before netting 10 in the prem in a team that barely had any possession in the final third, isn't good enough. I am at a loss.

Of course, IF we are after Adebayo, it comes down to the feel. Anything north of a couple million-ish looks steep. But still, over 4 years could be decent value.

Well summed up.

This is the reality of the club's current situation.

To be fair, it's not a terrible situation to be in.

As a club, we have a lot to look forward to in my opinion.

Agree. And what a turn around in the last year. Suddenly we look like a properly run club.

Lankshear I think is a good signing.

Adebayo as an option if he were to cost us no more than £1m would also be a good option. Any more given his age and form this season would be a risk.

I’ve no issue with our strategy.

Some of the posts on social media are actually idiotic and I’ve found myself blocking or muting quite a few.

The inability to understand the football food chain or domino effect during a window is mind-boggling!

Prem clubs especially assess what they have and need, plan their business and if they want someone to go and get experience they do it at the end of the window.  Why would they do it any other way.

We are working with a limited budget, however despite this being explained over and over…people still don’t believe we have money. We don’t have ten’s of millions, but we do have a chunk.  The club need to ensure what they have goes as far as it can to plug gaps or top up the needs of the squad.  The summer will be interesting.  Contracts up, more investment and further squad development.  Exciting times. If Mowbray delivers some kind of miracle in the playoffs, plans will change dramatically, but they’re planning for all eventualities.

You don’t need to be rocket scientist to understand this. You just have to read and listen to those in charge.

It amazes me how many people don’t read or listen and then make false assumptions and appear to panic. Quite bizarre.

Well said Ronnie.

I think those behind the scenes are doing a very tidy job to keep us competitive despite the decreasing budget and the upheaval of players and coaching staff in the last 12 months. Despite our budget being 30% lower we’re in the same place as last year, not many clubs could say that!  We also have a younger squad, and are another step closer to removing the deadwood that’s causing us to operate under these measures.

Lankshear is a punt, but one that will not cost much, and could offer the unpredictability up top. Much like Racic, it’s cheap, short term and if it doesn’t workout, we won’t be lumbered with huge wages for 3 years.

Adebajo is a very good striker who ticks all the boxes for what we need up top. He’s a good age, has scored goals in this division and the one above, and won’t command huge wages. For the right fee he’s the type of player most of this division would want. 12 months ago he’d have cost £20M and many were bemoaning we hadn’t picked him up for peanuts when he was impressing at Walsall.

Given Mowbray’s ability to revitalise players who have lost their way a little, I’d expect us to get goals out of the big man, and would be all for getting his signing over the line provided the fee is right. The £7m being mooted is far too rich, but I don’t see us being able to get close to that anyway. We’ve no doubt got £2-3m of the CC money to spend, so would expect us to be limited to just that at most, and for that fee he’s worth a punt IMO.

I'm not comfortable with people writing off a signing before they've actually signed.

Any player in the Luton squad has, I assume, looked poor given their league position and results.

Also, have we learnt nothing from Grant's turnaround? Players can come good if given the chance and the right circumstances.

Let's give players a chance before judgement, eh!

Where's the fun in that?!

I lay the blame squarely at the feet of Mowbray, ever since he name checked Erling Haaland last week, half the idiots on tinternet seem to think we're gonna fucking sign him.      Big Grin
