The fact is if we dont go up this season then we'll be even more desperate to sell next season, so the price of Griffiths will be beneath his market value anyway, even if he has a cracking season. We needed the better goalkeeper currently to have a better chance of going up, or a semi decent fee; which we're going to have neither.

Your first and last sentences are spot on though

Griffiths isn't half the keeper that Palmer is, and Palmer isn't half the keeper that Johnstone was... It's cascading decline, each replacement is worse... Except Button, every fucker is better than him.
