"Played like the away team"

There's already been a lot of disapproving voices regarding our "style" v 'boro.

For the first 25 mins and the last 25 mins I saw a team that was compact and trying to be aggressive. We got the ball and players forward at pace, then when we lost it the first thought was to aggressively counter press up the pitch in numbers, but once the press failed we quickly sprinted back into a good compact shape. Perhaps we got a little too deep at times, but I am sure we will find a balance.

Our biggest error since CC has left is being too loose and having too many gaps between the line both in attack and in defence. So I was delighted to see that addressed immediately. I do think that we will become better at pressing the ball in our own half, but it takes time. CC never wanted his players to tackle as it took them out of their shape, Mason wanted his players to tackle but we were so poorly set up. Where everything Ramsay says points towards him wanting a combo of both. A deep, tight block, but when they come into our half a intense press and aggression on trying to win the ball back.

Anyone disapproving of our style after one game needs to give their head a wobble. Perfect example of why the internet in certain peoples’ hands is akin to giving a toddler a razor blade to play with.
Ramsay’s methods and preferences will be clear for all to see in due course, only drawback being the time available is rapidly dwindling - 19 games might seem like a long time but not when your form is crumbling when every other team is starting to grind out results.

We were an improved team on Friday. Ramsay also changed things, rather like CC v Sheff Utd in the first game he had.

I think many are forgetting there was another team on the pitch. I don't think we consciously let them have the ball, they simply played better for much of the game.

Both can be true I guess

Boro are 6 months ahead in their process than us. Edwards drilled a game plan in that Hellberg has made minor tweaks to. Ramsay has had 4 days with a squad that did 120 mins plus pens the previous Sunday, with a crisis in MC and that has had questionable levels of coaching now for a year.

It will take ER time, but I have more reasons to be optimistic than I had during games under Mason.

Who knows how it's going to end this season but with 19 games left ir we can't get 21pts from 57 pts available which I believe will be enough then we deserve to go down .

For an allegedly defensive set up. I have seldom seen us with an average set of positions showing a front 5.
