Whitwell - 2 year extension.

Good to see us showing some faith in younger players with contracts - we spent too long letting deals run down.

Hopefully he gets a bit of game time this year, but assume 2 year extension may be to ship him out on loan.

I think he'll go out on loan, but only when we've brought someone in to replace him.

If he can have a full season playing in league one or two, he'll come back better for it.

Good on the Albion to sign up and have faith in some youngsters.
Well deserved for Whitwell.

I’d personally like to see him get game time with us this season. He looks physically ready for first team football. We seem so hesitant to give young players a chance in the last few years. It’s almost as if we’re waiting for them to be the finished product before giving them any minutes by which point the player has either had their development slowed down by just playing reserve football for a few years or they get pissed and move elsewhere (Villa).

Sunderland are a perfect example of seeing the fruits of giving youngsters a chance. Even if they don’t turn out to be good enough we’ve already seen us bring in fees for the likes of Faal and Ashworth.

Indeed, and whilst players develop at different rates, it’s annoying seeing Finn Azaz turn into the exact player we’ve been crying out for for several years but he wasn’t given a chance despite having a more than decent year at Cheltenham on loan.

I don't get this, He's 19 and its not like he's trying to break into Liverpools midfield, He should have some matches this year
