I was in Beijing about a year before the Olympics and some old bird started loudly protesting about her son who had disappeared at the hands of the police. Less than 20 minutes later she was bundled into the back of the van, for all I know never to be seen again. The street returned to their business as though nothing had happened.

The perceived value of a person’s life isn’t the same over there.

They also attacked protestors in the UK when Winnie the Pooh came to visit
