He won't leave them for us I'd not imagine but he'd be one I would be keen on. Think he'd be a great fit in terms of profile, developing younger players, coaching and as a continuation from Carlos. He’s done nothing to warrant the position… we are currently 8th despite poor form and they are still five points behind us. That also explains why Liam Manning (who I don’t rate that highly) is fairly short priced. Certainly based on the game at our place early this season I thought they had a lot of positives in terms of shape and organisation. The players are all crap RE: The managerial shortlist - MancBaggie - 12-29-2024 (12-29-2024, 11:30 AM)tHEgLASSdOORS Wrote:(12-29-2024, 11:26 AM)MancBaggie Wrote:(12-29-2024, 11:06 AM)tHEgLASSdOORS Wrote:(12-29-2024, 10:59 AM)Ted Maul Wrote: Luke Williams at Swansea mentioned a couple of times this morning. I didn’t think they were that great at ours but given how their budgets are reduced every year/ they have to sell a key player - can’t argue with their league position The Swansea job gets harder every year for the above reason. Cooper got them in the play offs and that’s why I wouldn’t hammer Martin for the job he did there RE: The managerial shortlist - Pragmatist - 12-29-2024 So many on social media writing off young up and coming coaches. “What have they won?” “He failed at Stoke”. “Got sacked at x”. “Why? They’re below us in the league”. Good young managers have to do it the hard way in the lower leagues. They don’t get handed top jobs on a plate just because of their big name playing career. Nearly every manager gets sacked 2 or 3 times in their career, which means that they experienced a bad run with a particular group of players (often those they inherited rather than chose). How many times did Mourinho get sacked? A good coach is a good coach. They might be at the wrong club with the wrong resources. They may well have an owner or a board with no patience and no clear strategy, who press the panic button far too soon. Just because a manager coached in Europe doesn’t make him adaptable to Championship or Premier League football. There’s only two English managers currently in the Premier League (Howe and Dyche although McKenna is close), following the sackings of Cooper and Martin. Some of the coaches on our (apparent) shortlist like Schumacher and Williams, Eustace and Robins are de facto among the top dozen English coaches in the country! A bit of context is always useful in any debate.
