If we get Austin and Zohore off the wage bill and bring Grant in, great.
But Grant hasn’t played yet this season. How long will it take him to get up to speed? What if he gets injured a few games in?
He's 23 and very fit and is training hard, he'll be up to speed in no time.

And this is exactly why today is such a massive disappointment. It's not about whether we expected other targets or whether we have another 2 weeks to sign these players. We've lost any negotiating power, if any other PL clubs need strikers then there's potential for bidding wars and if we fail on our main targets then we'll have to look at lower quality replacements from a limited selection of players.
Whoever we wanted to sign should have been in before today's deadline.
Two points
1 - we need at least a right back and a striker, and as i understand our options now are only EFL players . And even if we can source players of sufficient quality to fill our requirements, we will need to pay a transfer fee, something we don't seem capable of doing.
2 - What is going to happen in the next 11 days that makes deals possible, that haven't been possible so far.
1. We do need a right back which makes the signing of Peltier incredulous - Dowling really must be challenged on that one. Don't forget there are loads of bosmans knocking about too to which a fee as such won't apply.
2. Austin, Zohore and Grosicki should be gone and possibly others so that's at least 100k a week saved if so. That money plus the fees we receive will make the signing of Grant and hopefully Deeney possible. Regardless of the budget and taking into account the Kanu news, I reckon the boat will be pushed out ever so slightly.
Plus we do have the Ferguson money at some point and maybe some income from reduced attendances if this current campaign is successful.

Grant is the man. I know I keep saying it but he's scored more goals than Watkins in the last two seasons!

Even if King has had a substantial wage drop following relegation we're going to struggle to match them.
I'd rather we put the money towards a longer term view, but given that option has slammed shut in our fact, I'd sooner King for a season on 50-60k than bloody Deeney or Gray!

I wonder if this is true or leaked by the club to show we are trying? Seems strange to leave it to the final day.....

If we're trying to pay less than 18m for Grant then this would be a very dumb move, especially as in the Brum mail it's saying that we can only afford Grant or Josh King in a carefully structured deal
