Luckily, Leyland came up trumps with its successor.

The Ital was a fine automobile.

You are taking the piss.............

The Marina was a Morris Minor re-shelled, and the Ital was a Marina re-shelled.

What cars were good 50 years ago is not comparable with cars today.
The Marina was a step up from a moggie 1000 and pretty reliable compared to most other models at the time.
Marina's were also brilliant on the track, being light on the back made them easy to power slide.
Good fun in the snow, very controllable IMO.
You couldn't describe them as pretty or desirable but for the "lads" they were ideal.

The Marina 1.8TC was a nippy motor back in the day. My other memory of them was seeing Marinas roadside a lot with one front wheel pointing the opposite way to the other when the trunnion used to fail from neglect
That was the same with Minors. Grease the trunions every 500 miles was the advice. Few did...

A similar problem with old Eastern Bloc motors. They were cheap so people didn`t maintain them. Our Terry had 4 Skoda Estelles over a 10 year period, £1,999 on the road, with a tool set, fuses, bulbs etc. Went anywhere even when it was minus 10 or whatever, still a great car IMO. Eventually changed to an Austin Princess, awful, - something wrong every week. My brother is a genius with motors, has restored old Austin A55 / A 60`s etc. The only car I ever saw defeat him was an Austin Princess, saw him chuck a spanner at it and call it the biggest heap of crap ever etc.
