It used to shake itself to bits between about 40 and 70mph on the motorway but if I could get it above 70 everything calmed down again

Actually bought my first car from The Bank!  Big Grin
One of these...

The gear change was - to put it mildly - imprecise; the lever was about a metre long.
Mk2 Ford Cortina 1600E in light blue YLF 712G (1969). Took out a bank loan of £400 to buy it in 1976 Did loads of work on it but the engine gave out. Replaced it with a 1600 GT engine that had been upgraded for a rally car. I never told the insurance company and it went like a rocket. Flogged it to my cousin about 2 years later for £600. Worth a small fortune now. Like this onebut with a Webasto sunroof on mine.

My 1970 (H) Mini Clubman took us to France twice in the early 80s - including driving down to Monte Carlo and back - no RAC, AA or anything like that.

Would never consider anything like that now but it never missed a beat!

They were (mine was a normal 1000) but are strictly pedestrian compared to most of today's cars.

Mind you - doing 60+ in a Mini felt like 150!
Mine an apple green Renault 4 1974, bought in 84 from my girlfriend’s mum in Halesowen. Heap of shit it was and only kept it a few months.
