So, in what was a very long two hours yesterday, I watched the game with a friend of mine who is a Leicester fan. He usually has a relatively reasonable perspective and didn't rub it in my face too much. His is assessment was that we weren't particularly bad compared to the other teams that are in and around the bottom half of the Prem and that at half time he was concerned that we might nick it.

However he said he found it strange that seemingly we're a promoted team playing with zero confidence, the opposite of Leeds the day before, as usually teams that come up are on a high. Unfortunately, I think this is a real problem. The fans, the squad, the manager all seem to lack any confidence. If Pereira's free kick had gone in yesterday I think we'd be looking at a different result, we need a league win asap.

He also said before the game that the issue with Harvey Barnes is that since he's come back he just can't finish. I thought it sounded farfetched, but then he did miss a couple of sitters.

At this level, sometimes it’s small margins. You mention Periera’s free kick - had Furlong not been chopped down (should it have been a Red? *not watched it back) he was clean through and odds in favour of making it 1-0.

No excuses re: what happened in the 2nd

on porpoise  Wink

good point about lack of confidence/belief, hence why it's critical we get 4/5 new players in the side asap as some of the existing lot don't believe they're good enough.

It's going to get worse too with potential defeats against Everton and Chelsea on the horizon. Saints could go either way maybe with our new signings and then we have Burnley (h) Brighton (a) and Fulham (h) where we simply have to pick up some points.
Sawyers is useless. end of.

It's relative, in the Championship team of the season and that's probably where he should star every week, maybe back at Brentford.
The fact we looked quite good for the first half an hour and overall had the better of the first half made that second half hurt a lot but Leicester are a big deal these days....unfortunately our next two are against a club on their way to being a big deal and one of the "top four". Just need to keep ourselves from getting too negative before we the next four games which are more in our league.

Some experience in the squad would be good.... Deeney and Ivanovic - and we need more options in the middle desperately. I have 100% faith that Dowling will do everything he can to get the right players in given our budget. If we can see it then he saw it 8 months ago.

Sawyers will be fine at this level in a 3, alongside 2 energetic midfielders.

I don’t blame Sawyers for being poor yesterday, I blame Slav for attempting to play him in a two, and the club for not prioritising a central midfielder when we’ve known we’ve needed one since Christmas regardless of which division we found ourselves in this year.

The confidence piece is huge, and I completely agree... the lack of new faces to give us a lift and the relatively short turnaround since our poor form at the end of last season looked to impact us.

Had Pereira’s free kick gone in, it may have given us the lift we needed, but as soon as we went 1-down there was absolutely no way this lot were turning it round. Realise we had brilliant come from behind stats last year, but that fight seemed to have disappeared yesterday.
Good point and one I was going to mention as the Express and star's Albion guys talked it through yesterday, talking far more sense than the majority on here. They said the confidence drained out of us as soon as we went behind. https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/foo...eat-video/

This team is fragile mentally. It’s been the case for a number of years. We don’t react well to negative situations.

I don’t know whether it’s just an actual club thing and we lack “leaders”. Your Scharners, Your Olsson’s etc

Why is this though? Can Slaven not give them some confidence? do we only sign players who are like that ? Are they all afraid of something ?
