And we kept two clean sheets.

Against Kosovo and Bulgaria.

You can only keep out what’s in front of you.

Mings was crap against Kosovo and only kept a clean sheet by virtue of their strikers being almost shit at finishing chances as we are, and the list of players I listed that are all better than Mings (I'd also add Holgate, Dunk and Tomkins) haven't been given a sniff despite all being better so how are they supposed to keep out what's in front of them?

Saying Player X is better is purely subjective, and I probably agree that some of those listed are. My point remains that Southgate tends to stick with players once they get into the squad and it takes a pretty dramatic drop in form for them to go. This is why he’s still there.

Jack Grealish v English midfielders

- Scored the most goals (8)
- Got the most assists (6)
- Created the most chances (92)
- Won the most free kicks (167)
- Dribbled the furthest (14.1k)

Most of that 14.1km of dribbling was sideways and backwards into his own half.

- Crashed the most cars in lockdown.

All the players listed have shown they can play at Premier League level, Mings had a few good months in the Championship over a year ago, a poor season last season and a few good seasons as a left back for Ipswich before that again at Championship level. There's pretty overwhelming evidence that Mings is not as good as those players, what has he done at Premier League level? Villa only had a better defensive record than Norwich last season for crying out loud.

If Southgate is picking players based on being lucky at keeping a clean sheet against Kosovo 10 months ago and a poor Bulgaria side even longer ago while all those players aren't being given a chance to show what they can do in a tournament that has replaced international friendlies and with the Euros a year away making this the perfect time to blood players and find your best team, then he's being an idiot. You'd have difficulty putting Mings in the top 10 English centre halves yet both him and Michael Keane are seemingly untouchable? Absolutely ridiculous selection.

Conor Coady is much better than Mings.

People can throw whatever stats they like about how good he is but his constant diving and play acting has gone against him. What I've never understood is why no one has taken him to one side and said to him how much more affective he could be if he doesn't dive. His first thought is always to go down.

It looks to me like it's been a call between Grealish and Foden and Southgate has picked the superior player. Foden is going to be England's best player in the next decade imo.

Because he is coached by a deludedfisheatingsealcunt.

Recall reading somewhere that Southgate doesn’t fancy Coady because he plays in a back three.

Surprised neither Coady nor O’Connell are in the squad as they’ve both been excellent this year, although that would make sense. Mings is left footed so will always be involved due to our lack of left footers.

Grealish won’t play for England whilst he’s at Villa. GS is all about players that fit a system and GJ has never played without the freedom to do as he pleases. He’s integral to Villa’s play as he’s their best player, but his stats are influenced by how much of the ball he sees.  Look at the number of times he loses possession, or his assists / key passes as a % of total attempted and his stats are far less favourable.

It's probably more to do with the fact he's a liability and Southgate doesn't trust him in an England shirt.

He broke the curfew and wasn't discrete about it, drove his car into other vehicles (and I expect there's far more to come out about this yet - is Southgate ITK?)

He constantly dives/cheats and moans etc..

Shit haircut.   Wink

There's probably other stuff Southgate knows that we don't from inside the game?  Who knows.
The fact Jack is an Irishmon can't help his cause.
