Some real bollocks spouted on here regarding Honda by those desperate for Britain to collapse just so they can shriek “told you so”.
Firstly the idea we are being cut out of some great deal the EU had cut with Japan. They are allowing tarrif free imports from Japan. That would be the deal giving the Japanese manufacturers no reason to keep production in Europe. Basically the EU just killed off one of its own industries. If that’s the kind of deal the EU are doing, then I’m glad we are out.
Secondly it’s been clearly stated by Honda themselves this is nothing to do with Brexit and all manufacturing for the EU will consolidate into Europe. But let’s not listen to those who run the company, I’m sure Derek and the other know it alls on here will tell us what’s really going on. I bet it has everything to do Boris and nothing whatsoever with a changing market that is focusing on producing electric cars for Asia and the US whist the European market is seen as a poor 3rd in terms of potential.

Talking of bollocks, here comes the new Brexiteer line - the very people who could see that it was a fucking stupid idea are now somehow hoping our work, pensions and futures for are children are fucked so that we can be proved right. What a crock.

Honda haven't said it's nothing to do with Brexit in any statement and we seem to have precluded ourselves from the consolidating the manufacturing into Europe by leaving it. We might be seen as a 'poor 3rd in terms of potential' (a completely made up fact btw) but we had a strong supply chain and manufacturing base and importantly a stable political climate that could have served the japanese car makers well in supplying the EU (from the inside) but why stick with that when we can do it alone eh?

Ian Howells, senior vice-president for Honda in Europe, told the BBC:

“This is not a Brexit-related issue for us, it's being made on the global-related changes I've spoken about.
"We've always seen Brexit as something we'll get through, but these changes globally are something we will have to respond to. We deeply regret the impact it will have on the Swindon community”.

Honda also announced it would stop making the Civic at its plant in Turkey in 2021.

The EU and Japan recently struck a trade deal which lowers tariffs on both parties' car exports to zero.
