Sam Johnstone too....

lets be fair he is neither the worst or the best keeper in the League. His physical attributes are ideal for the modern keeper, tall , powerful, agile and quick reactions, however his weakness is his positional play ! All the great keepers made it look easy, commentators would remark on Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton etc " the shot was straight at him" absolute bollox , it was them being in the right position to make the save! Watch him at Man. United, saves more with his feet than his hands, but he's always in the right place! This is the key. Johnstone needs serious coaching on this aspect, and his obvious fear/reluctance to leave his line.  His agility gets him out of trouble on occasions , yes, but basically HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO or where to stand!  Sort him out Slaven ffs!

Bond has never done anything wrong when called upon, a real chance to stake his claim.

Last season stats to prove that he's not bad at all.

7th most percentage on target saved 70% in fact but he faced the 4th most shots on target against (nice one Jonesy!)

18th highest clean sheet percentage, and 7th shots saved %

So what most of us have been saying... an average Champ goalie that has obvious weaknesses and strengths but was not helped last year playing behind a poor defence.

Yep exactly. I don't think you can blame him much for the lack of clean sheets. The season before at Villa he'd been #1 clean sheets in the league.

He'll save us more points then he'll directly cost us.

Just not as commanding as Foster (but then not many are).

Waaaah.

Bond's shot stopping was brilliant at Brighton, but he was absolutely powder puff on more than one delivery into the box. Johnstone would have got pelters for not being dominant enough.

In the replay, Johnstone would have been absolutely slaughtered if he had let Andone's shot straight through him, irrespective of Dawson and Bartley's Keystone Cops impression beforehand.

Too many see what they want to see and spin it accordingly. If we are comparing fairly, they both need to be judged with the same (very) critical eye. That probably won't happen because the only way Bond will get a run of games for more accurate comparison is injury to our first choice keeper, which Johnstone most certainly is.
