DaVinci’s resolve free video software is fantastic 

Python and pycharm front end are great tools for web interaction but take time to learn, courtesy of YouTube videos and articles on the internet. 

VLC is great for converting file types.

Having just read the thread on The Band, my favourite software (Windows only) to download videos or just the audio track is HD video converter trial version by wondersoft. You are allowed 100 free downloads before you need to buy the software.  However….. the software enables batch downloads which crazily only count as 1 of the downloads towards the 100 permitted.  So 100 downloads of batches containing 20 videos is 2000 downloads. 

Better still, if you use up the 100 free downloads. remove the software and download it again and the counter is re-set and you can download and other 100 times for free 

I’ve used this to download the audios (mp4a) from concerts and playlists of YouTube.  A playlist also only counts as 1 download, but you can’t add anything else in that download. 

If you use this software to download videos, you won’t have the advertisements in the downloads.

Thoroughly recommend it and it doesn’t contain any malware nor viruses. Well Norton didn’t find any and says it’s safe.

That’s a given    You could use the software to download any of your favourite videos from porn sites.  But you may need to buy a very large hard (on) drive  

But I’m referring to open source / trial software to download . tiT

Free to download then buy.
Free to download, but then an attachment is needed (buy)
Free for a time period. Then buy
Free to use a set amount of times. Then buy.
Free antivirus scan only. Then buy.

Even free updates are to jam up your hard drive until it achieves snail pace.
Then you need a new PC - Tablet - Phone (complete con)
I recently complained to Norton with updates the software was taking up 50% of my hard drive and it's continual monitoring was continually using upto 60% of my CPU capacity.
They advised I buy a faster and larger PC.
Great idea - after using Norton for many years, I've deleted it completely.
It's improved everything. No more subscription either. Which had doubled in price since I initially downloaded it.

Other than the HD video converter which has a trial (100 downloads) they are all free to use.   As mentioned above. If you download the videos - audios in batches you can download loads of videos and or audio tracks.  Then remove it and re-install it and away you go again.  I’ve used this software for about 3 years and I’m now on the 2nd download as my previously downloaded version was out of date and would no longer download videos from YouTube. The new download kindly re-set the number of downloads for trial to 100.   I’d honestly recommend it.  

Recently I downloaded lots of audio files from videos from YouTube.  So no add breaks when listening to music from YouTube (without paying YouTube to be advert free).

Get_iplayer - download anything from IPlayer forever. Very useful for radio stuff as well as Glastonbury. Great searches mean you can batch download an entire series at once.

Reaper - Audio DAW. Similar quality to Davinci Resolve. I've paid for it but you don't need to - lots of support and tutorials on line. I stopped using Logic once I'd got my head around this.

FreeNAS - convert an old PC into a NAS box. I've built a few machines for this with new bits too.

WireShark - Scans live packets on your network. Something making your network run slow? See live requests and acknowledgements so you can work out what's going on.

Advanced IP Scanner - Pings every address on your network and lists what's there - good for seeing where's free in any static address zones.

Ahh. I’d mis-spelt david I and it’s resolve that I used.  They develop the software for use if the film industry and the free version is c ur down version.  

I used resolve for the videos for a best man’s speech a few years ago and had a compilation of videos from family and friends that couldn’t make the wedding which was abroad.   Some of the videos people sent me were either too far away. the audio very quiet or in one case, recoded with a window behind them so they were silhouetted.  I was able to correct all of these using this software which was fantastic, considering it was free!!    I only touched the surface of all the features available.

Make sure you get a free copy of cakewalk DAW before they make it sonar again. Much better than reaper, and reaper is excellent.
