I never suggested the UK was in the right place. Far from it.

Well after referendum successes and multiple election wins I'd have thought that the penny would drop that you're making the wrong decisions seeing as that has resulted in the country being far from the right place (after 13 fucking years and getting our freedom from the EU that is)

You can only make the decisions that are placed in front of you. The malaise with which we're presented with goes far beyond the last 13 years. My greatest disappointment is that instead of dealing with the fundamental issues of our time (debt, healthcare funding, social care funding, housebuilding, pensions) the Tory governments of the last 12 years have merely served to compound the mangerialist social democratic soup we became soon after the demise of Dear Margaret as PM.

Say what you like about Truss (and I'm sure you / I will) but at least she seems to recognise that. Whether she can do anything about it is a different question entirely. I'm not convinced a contrived Barber Boom in a time if stagflation is "it", but only time will tell. I'm not entirely sure our electoral system can cope with radicalism any more - what is clear from survey after survey these days is that people have got so used to sucking on the teat of the state that they actually quite like it.

I do realise I'm in a minority these days in believing this is a wholly bad thing.

Not the Brexit the Brxiteer wanted - more immigration, that's what we wanted.

If it's any consolation to him it's not the Brexit I wanted either.

However, unlike him apparently, it is the one I expected.

Contrary to popular belief the number of EU migrants in the UK has been broadly flat since the Brexit vote, whereas immigration from ROW has increased sharply.

It's fair to say that if you invested heavily in growing strawberries and asparagus, and were dependent on paying piss poor wages for temporary labourers working in terrible conditions then your business model might have to change somewhat. And we might have to pay more for our strawberries.

Otherwise what Wolfson is describing is a tight labour market phenomenon amongst most developed economies. Which is a good thing as we approach the inevitable recession.
