I was just about to post that. The money goes to the club, not to the owners, and the money gets paid out in transfer fees, wages, agent fees and compensation to sacked managers. There’s nothing left for shareholders so I can’t see them ever getting their money back.
This point comes up quite a lot. “You need to be in the Premier League to access the money”. From a supporter’s perspective and from (most) shareholders’ perspectives, the money is a myth. It all evaporated into players and agents pockets.
