Although, as ever, the film was a huge disappointment after reading the book. The book went on to describe the years spent in solitary and how he managed to overcome the mental torture. In the film he is put into solitude and pops out again after 2 minutes with a tooth missing.

Not a true book by all accounts, Charrière used experiences told to him by other prisoners!
