Loved Happy Hour in my younger days by HMs.

Saw The Housemartins at the Powerhouse in about Sept 86 just after Happy Hour broke them big. It was one of the first, if not the first, decent-sized venues they'd played and was of those epic seething mass nights. That said, compared to Heaton's later sublime songwriting they were a bit of a poor man's Smiths in retrospect-no surpise that they didn't last too long. Think for a Minute by the 'Martins, but my overall vote also goes to Song For Whoever-gorgeous tune and superb lyrics.

Great pick today.
And still hundreds of bands still to chose from.

So many good ones but

Prettiest Eyes

Can't argue with these choices. Maybe add 'Old red eyes is back' into the mix.

The Housemartins were the first proper gig I attended, in 87 at The Hummingbird (supported by The Farm). They wrote some fantastic times, brilliant indie pop. Out of many favourites, I think I'd choose Flag Day as the best.
