Meanwhile, the EU--shorn of the UK's moderating influence--does seem to be jumping down its own political rabbit hole by beginning membership talks with Albania and Northern Macedonia. Consolidation would probably be a better move than messianistic expansion.

----

True. That is bonkers.

But I think it was mainly the UK that pushed for Turkey to join - because the USA wants Turkey to join and the UK mostly does what the USA tells it to (like the Gulf War). And the idea of Turkey joining was also bonkers.

Personally I don't trust or like any of them. The UK government (Labour or Tory or any of the rest). Same for the EU. Same for the USA. None of them. All as bad as each other.

Albania in the EU fuck me might aswell just arm the streets now it will be like a civil war when they bring their problems over ......they are ruthless fuckers cocaine and guns .......love the EU x

Just like the ‘project fear’ of Turkey becoming members. As said above we could act as a moderating view from inside instead of moving away and damaging both ourselves and the eu in the process. Absolute madness all around.

No thankyou why would you want to be members with known gun runners and just lawless thugs ......move to slovakia then you can be part of it it's a easy decision to make people have had plenty of time to make arrangements .

Albania joining, this sounds familiar  https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolicy/unfounded-claim-turkey-swing-brexit-referendum/

No facts in black and white but don’t let that stop project fear.

I think there is a bit more of a push for this one

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-50100201

"The failure came despite a recommendation from the European Commission and the European Parliament."

A few countries have vetoed it so far but looks like there will be quite a bit of pressure for them to remove their veto

RE: So where are we then - baggy1 - 10-27-2019

And this is where the misdirection and lies continue. In order for a country to be admitted into the EU they have to pass many stringent tests including workers rights, democracy, living standards and security (the Copenhagen Criteria).

Liqs views that we just open the doors to them is simply a lie, unless, of course, he is just spouting views without looking into them which does tend to happen these days.

In order for Albania to be admitted they would have to work with the EU to improve their standards and that would involve cracking down on their gangs (with the help of Europol etc). Therefore we, as part of the EU, could have had a direct say in improving the security of Albania and therefore improving our homeland security.

But don't let that get in the way of some jingoistic bollox about them nasty foreigners coming over here to rape our daughters.

RE: So where are we then - The liquidator - 10-27-2019

So your saying we have no fear of the lovely Albanians......jesus christ

RE: So where are we then - baggy1 - 10-27-2019

Not at all, I'm saying that for all your project fear talk (as with Turkey) they won't get in without making major changes.

And the obvious bit that you will have missed is that the Albanian criminal gangs are already here - they tend not to wait for their EU passports before they come over and start their crime sprees. As you say - jesus christ, there really is no helping some people when it comes to the obvious.

RE: So where are we then - The liquidator - 10-27-2019

The more you let in IF they are allowed in it will be like a war zone where they live they are lawless and dont care it's the same as the somarlians ......you go down small heath it's like a different country they dont care about law and order they are not afraid of it ...
