You probably need to look for individual articles and try to avert your gaze from the rest of the stuff - even in the so-called 'serious' papers. That example of The Guardian this week being a case in point. Even thinking something so crass would have been bad enough, but okay, we've all been guilty of that on occasions; but to put it down in print, still not think better of it, and then for a member of the editorial staff to allow it through just beggared belief.

Neal Ascherson is still the best of the bunch for me, but he's 86 now and his contributions are fewer and further between. He contributed this to The Observer's recent WWII commemorative supplement: https://www.theguardian.com/theobserver/...r-outbreak
