I was very, very harsh on Irvine when he was here. He was out of his depth but I do wonder how different it could have been had we recruited well that summer. He did well with introducing Saido and Dawson to fitmrst team regular status.
If we'd have had Ashworth or someone of a similar ilk and a decent squad he may have been able to prove some of us wrong, but he was left floundering, out of his depth and no way of saving himself.
