Match by Match Preparation

One thing I’d like to know is how much scouting and tactical work we do on upcoming opponents?

It’s obvious that most managers we have come up against so far have spent a lot of time working on counteracting our style and strengths and ways of exploiting our weaknesses.

Only a few moments of class from Albion have stopped us dropping more points.

But, is this reciprocated by Val ?

We seem to want to play our way and shape regardless of the oppositions strengths or weaknesses.
At the start of the season it worked but it was soon sussed out out to mitigate most of our play and now managers are staring to find ways to exploit our rigidity.

SET PIECES - what’s happened ?  We seemed to have that in our locker and allied to the long throw we looked dangerous every match. Now we hardly use the long throw even against smaller teams like Swansea and the set pieces are average at best.

We play one way with one system. The tactics don't change; just the personnel. It worked early on when we had fitness and energy to press intensely and our set pieces were superb. Frankly, the questionable "football" didn't really matter then. Since Peterborough we don't press as a unit and the set piece takers have changed and so has the quality so we are left with turgid, boring hoofball and (often decent) crosses to non-existent strikers.

Last night was crying our for the back line to drop deeper and another man (Snodders) to come on in midfield with a striker to come off. I know it was late on, but surely when Reach replaced Phillips we could have taken off Bartley or Clarke and put Phillips and Reach wide with two strikers?

Agreed on all counts.

We were losing the midfield battle and their quick passing which we weren't stopping was hurting that high line. Add another midfielder in, drop that line a bit, we could have taken some control of the match back.

Losing the midfield was clear, keeping the high line whilst losing it, who is to blame for that?

Despite Swansea's Barcelonesque passing-not - neither came from that or midfield domination simply a big hoof over Clarke's head who as well as having a mare resembled one last night and the other firstly Furlong and Ajayi fucking up and them Ajayi/Barts/Clarke doing a Keystone cops sketch.

I hope Val has had them in this morning and absolutely bollocked the lot of them.  Kipre may not be a world-beater but he would have cut Piroe and Paterson in two.

We have an analytics team. Unfortunately the analytics they provide are only so much use when our opponents don't play ball by changing their game plans to render our pre match analysis largely redundant. Very devious of them to change the way they play. Most ungentlemanly. Pah.

As amusing as this is, it does seem to be pretty accurate Sad
