Summer Window Thoughts - Sticky? - SW4Baggie - 08-08-2019
Pros:
We've made a really strong managerial appointment in Bilic
We've delivered the two players who were allegedly top of Bilic's list when he arrived in Periera and Austin
We've kept the key players we needed to; Hegazi, Gibbs, Harper.
We've got excellent fees for Dawson, Rondon and Rodriguez (I mean David Luiz at £8m vs Dawson at £6m...)
We have brought the average age of the squad down with Semi, Furlong, Zohore.
We've fixed the midfield issue with Sawyers and brought someone who has a real affinity for the club back
We've made about £20m in profit including the Chadli money, and we've definitely cut the wage bill - the bids for Ajeti/Moron and co. suggest there is money in the bank
We've managed to get Leko and Field out on loan which will be invaluable for us going forward
We've started the global search again, and look to have a few options compared to previous years
Negs:
I still think we're one striker short, but we have an army of attacking wingers so there should be no shortage of options and creativity
Right back does look a little ropey should we see an injury there
Our most exciting player signings (IMO) are all on loan again, and we could well be left short/facing big fees next season - but lets worry about that another day
I'm not sure we've really got a lot of long term sell on potential with the players we have signed on permanent deals, but a couple of options to buy on the loanees will definitely sort that
Robson-Kanu and Bartley may still play games.....
All in all, I'd say a pretty good transfer window.... I think we have less individual quality than last year, but we have better options and look less dependent on 2-3 individuals.

Very happy, reminds me of the Mowbray rebuild after the last playoff failure. Older players who have gone a bit stale moved on, younger players brought in to replace them.
Hopefully we’ll see a similar result.

Yeah, it's all been very balanced to be honest as is your post SW4.
Only thing I'd disagree with is the
'Our most exciting player signings (IMO) are all on loan again, and we could well be left short/facing big fees next season - but lets worry about that another day' line.
Sawyers is ours. Austin is ours. Pereira will be ours if all goes to plan (or if he plays x amount of games...). I would imagine that should he continue to do well we'll sign Krov too. That only really leaves Diangana who we've no chance of signing and Willock who is probably more a cover type player anyway.

I don't think we need another striker to be fair. With the players we have I can see us using only one as the focal point(Austin/Ken) supplemented to two pacy wingers who are able to cut inside, of which we now have 4 to choose from.

In fairness I think my next point hints at that, but maybe as he dust settles i’ll agree.
If we have options to buy Krov as well as Periera then that’s good business, the last thing we want is to need to replace everyone again next summer.
I think Willock will surprise us... I seem to remember Arsenal being disappointed when he left.

This exactly. Even HRK may be useful (as he is fairly ok at hold up play). More so there is depth in the wide areas so A) they need to preform to play B) if they're not we should have options on the bench that have the ability to make impact.
