Have you been in the away end at the Albion? - PatelsPlatoon - 02-09-2026 Once in post Taylor report all seater days. The 3-0 defeat v Blues that got Little sacked. I went with 2 workmates who were both Bluenoses. Just had to smile and take it on the chin. Matt Carbon had a stinker. As a kid in 70s/80s went in the Smethwick many times, as it was the nearer end for us, many a time and found myself with away fans, where they kind of mixed more in those days. Was in there when we beat Man U 2-0 and Cyrille scored down our end, around 1984. RE: Have you been in the away end at the Albion? - ericlegrisly too - 02-09-2026 First half in the cup game (draw) V Everton when the maimed us over 2 legs. 89? It was a lockout, so 2 of us sprinted to the away bit, I did a shit but effective enough Scouse impression to get past the copper and paid in the away end in the Smethwick. Went to a different copper at half time, spoke in my real accent and got squeezed in to our half of the Smethwick. Was a cup tie then a replay rather than 2 legs. Sheedy scored in both games. Who got ours in the 1-1? RE: Have you been in the away end at the Albion? - MrBater - 02-09-2026 No, but we did try for the Everton FA Cup back in 89(?). We'd got there at 1 and ended up walking all around the ground trying to get in anywhere that would let us, ended up heading back to the vehicle and going home. Not legs, I knew what I meant. 1-1 at the Hawthorns and I went to the replay on a coach with a piss-bucket in the middle of the aisle that was slopping overflow by the time we hit J1 of the motorway. Zico Anderson scored at the Hawthorns. Didn't Goodman and Anderson both get crocked and it destroyed our season? RE: Have you been in the away end at the Albion? - Dumbo - 02-09-2026 Only when they moved the home fans and away fans side for that first Prem season. Where my username comes from that game. "That's a peach of a cross, and that's a lovely goal"..... Barry Davies commentary I think iirc... Pat Van Den Hauwe elbowed Zico when running down the line, in front of the Rainbow attacking the Smethwick in the home game. Goodman got done within a few minutes of the start of the replay. I think it was PVDH who went over the ball and did his ankle ligaments. RE: Have you been in the away end at the Albion? - CIM - 02-09-2026 Did a few times as a lad in the 70s/80s. Recall Villa (Trewick winner for Albion in 79), Derby old Baseball Ground, Spurs, Oxford, Coventry. More recently Blues in the 90s, and Bradford in 2002. |
