2 child benefit cap to be lifted - CIM - 11-10-2025

How can we afford to lift this given the apparent black hole in finances? Surely if you cant afford more than 2 kids you shouldn't have more?

It's not made a lick of difference towards "if you can't afford a third kid don't have one" and the economic impact of a greater proportion of people who grew up in child poverty is significantly bigger. Getting rid of a policy that is costing more in the long-run than was saved is pretty common sense.

Weve not got a pot to piss in yet find money for this?

Gordon Brown started this off with his child/working tax credits
subsiding huge corporations paying crap wages
Feral families knocking out benefit babies

Softener for hike in income tax I’d imagine

I’m happy to pay it if so

Another 1 or 2p hike in income tax to find necessary social spending is fine by me.

But surely it's best to pay as little tax as possible and continue to watch things turn to shit?

I’d sooner they just went 2p if that’s what’s needed to stop looking down the back of the sofa every week

Completely agree with the 'pay more tax' principle but I'd like to see it ringfenced to "things I find justifiable" and, ideally for it to be time limited (lol).

Plus, this will hasten Proth's exile to Yanksville so there'll be one less whopper in the country.
