RE: ' Transfer Speculation Thread ' - Lurker#3 - 09-01-2025 If and it is a big if at this moment in time. The rumoured business is all we are planning I feel they club have got it wrong this summer in terms of the balance of the squad. Yes we needed to revamp the defence. But to spend so much, in wages especially, in what looks to be 4 centre backs when we were so short offensively last year, and then let go of our 2 biggest creators in Grady and Fellows and replacing them with a guy who's played left back for the last 2 seasons, then signing another left back, is just bizarre squad management. RE: ' Transfer Speculation Thread ' - wbamitch - 09-01-2025 If that is indeed it then spending fees on Mepham, Phillips, Gilchrist, Campbell and 5m on Heggebo probably wasn’t the wisest distribution of our limited budget. Theres a big enough question mark around Bany’s fitness that he might not play much, up until Wallace scored vs Wrexham it was widely agreed his legs have gone, Dike is a write off, Maja see Bany, MJ and Grant whilst can have good days are not consistent sources of goals and Iling Jr’s best football has been at LB. Unless two of Bany, Maja and Dike can miraculously stay fit for the season id say we are struggling RE: ' Transfer Speculation Thread ' - Ted Maul - 09-01-2025 (09-01-2025, 12:25 PM)Jacko Wrote: We're wildly lopsided unless Price is going to play off the right, with Bany and Maja competing for the 10 and Dike and Heggebo the 9. I can see us a lopsided 4-2-3-1 with Price off the left, drifting in as a second '10' alongside Bany or Maja with Wallace and MJ tasked with maintaining width on the right. Illing Junior then comes the width on the left tasked with getting round Price. In my head it works. RE: ' Transfer Speculation Thread ' - WorcsWBA - 09-01-2025 "West Brom are working on a loan deal for Charlie Taylor from Southampton. The Baggies have been keen on signing a left-back as boss Ryan Mason looks to complete his squad. Taylor only joined Southampton on a free transfer from Burnley last summer but made just five starts as the Saints were relegated from the Premier League. He has featured in the Saints' two EFL Cup games against Northampton and Norwich this season but has not played for Will Still's side in the Championship." Nick Mashiter (BBC Sport) Not much in it for Taylor really - moving 150 miles or whatever on loan at the age of 32 just to be an understudy. Unless they're looking at it as potentially freeing up Styles to play in midfield.... Probably thinks he has more chance of breaking into our team than theirs. Taylor on loan would be a very solid signing. Bags of experience but not past it and with it only being a loan we're not committed long term to an ageing player. Taylor and Ilung Jr coming in would suggest that Mason sees Johnston to fill that right hand side position. I said on another thread, Mikeys biggest asset is coming inside off the left and striking with his right. RE: ' Transfer Speculation Thread ' - Jacko - 09-01-2025 Taylor would have been a good signing when we were linked with him a decade ago. He's played about 600 minutes of football in 2 years. He's also extremely injury prone. I'm not seeing (m)any positives here. He's not a LB after all, so would add something different to the middle, although probably not goals and that is a concern. None of Mowatt, Molumby, Styles or Diakite will contribute more than a handful. Puts a lot of pressure on Price, MJ, Grant, Heggebo and the triage triplets. Oh, I'm not saying it's the right thing to do. However, filling our squad with left sided players and no direct replacement for Fellows can only suggest that Johnston would be the man to take that position. |
