Student loans are the tip of the iceberg. There's rank mismanagement, but also successive governments undervaluing the sector and actively seeking to discourage international students. It all needs reforms to be made.

Firstly, as we have transitioned to a service economy since the 1980s the demand for degree-educated people in the workforce has increased.
Secondly, international students have increased massively.

They would consider it aspirational.

But there is clearly NOT the demand for the graduates who're emerging. That's the point.
What value is there to the country or the individual in graduates ending in non-graduate roles. As most now do.
