No, because we’d have to rent them back on arms length terms, which just stores up future problems by increasing our annual outgoings. It’s also a very slippery slope when a club doesn’t own its own ground or training facilities. We just need to significantly cut our wage bill - simple as that. It’s unsustainable. We can’t, our wages at the moment are far too high. The game has changed significantly and we won’t be spending our way out, we can’t, no one can Correct.........whilst achieving promotion at the same time. No easy task at all given every relegated club is coming down with decent squads who they can afford to keep for at least one season. It's why getting promoted when you have parachute money is so important. We've spent the last two decades doing just that but unfortunately our run has come to an end and we are left, like many clubs before us, skint, mid table and losing ground. These new owners really do have their work cut out and there will be no quick fix. Like I've said before they need to spend their money on revolutionising our scouting network so we start identifying younger players who have upside potential, lower league prospects and have much better success in the loan market. RE: Takeover - fuzzbox - 01-07-2024 One thing we could do - I think - is drastically upgrade and enlarge our academy. Isn't that excluded from ffp? So, if this is correct, we could also conceivably sell the academy land, property and a portion of the training facilities to a 'friendly' buyer? This wouldn't store up problems because any rent paid by the academy is excluded from ffp anyway. Of course, this is playing round the edges of the problem. The wage bill is just too high. Probably also explains why nobody else in the championship wanted our 'stars'. The idea that cutting our wage bill is not the only answer. We have already reduced it by 20% this season. We have to sell playersat high and buy at low on a regular basis. Pay our loans off and get back our £12m+ Lai stole for starters. I'm still of the opinion no sale will happen. Simply because traditionally our owners are Chinese and they would rather go bankrupt then sell. They will talk and talk for ever. RE: Takeover - rsbaggy2 - 01-07-2024 Free Gatorade and Wendy's burger 1st match. Everton's training ground is owned by 3rd party and let at market rent. If you valued it at £10M (pure guess) then your rent would be £600K - £800K p.a. using 6%-8% yield. RE: Takeover - Tom Joad - 01-07-2024 The good news though, re FFP, is that this far greater scrutiny covers all clubs. We have good support at this level and can punch our weight fine on a level playing field. FFP should prevent any more Dingles and villa bursting out of the league with huge overspending, leaving us just the parachute clubs to deal with. Many of the latter are regularly as mismanaged as we have been. Before getting too down about the future it's worth remembering FFP should be applied across the board. I am still more concerned about the takeover than any sales or restrictions. |
