We did well to take 18 aussie wickets with an unfit bowling attack on a placid pitch

RE: It's The Ashes (again) - Cheshire East Baggie - 06-20-2023

Huge efforts being made to roll this turd of a result in glitter. Truth is that we went into a match one batsman down, with no competent wicket keeper, a spin bowler with a dodgy finger (a known problem for Mo since about 2018) and a tired old legend who can't take second innings wickets. Of the two bowlers who looked up for it, one decided to create a spat with the only Pakistani in the Aussie side. What a good thing Ollie has no past record of racism  Big Grin

We threw wickets away with unnecessarily gung-ho batting, missed chances in the field. It was ours to lose and we lost it. Baz and Ben need to learn lessons from this and make the necessary changes if Bazball is to be sustainable. In two years time, most of the magic players in our side will be gone (as will McCullum, probably). An Ashes win but no legacy wouldn't be ideal. An Ashes defeat with no legacy would just be typical England.

Concerned that Mark Wood hasn’t bowled a single ball in the County Championship yet this season. A huge risk for Lords if he comes in. Far more likely to go with Woakes who has a superb record at Lords.

Concern for me is that we lost even though Smith and Labushagne (their most dangerous batsmen) didn't score runs.

I'm seriously trying to think of a worse sight than a smug Australian.

Could have gone either way  - anyone who didn't enjoy that  doesn't enjoy cricket (the occasion, tension and drama and not the fucking result, cunts!).

I don’t accept the eulogising of this Australian side they were very very fortunate that Ali had a blistered spinning finger otherwise England would have won by 50++ runs!!!..

Woakes has been the unluckiest bowler through his Test career. Injury and the constant presence of Broad and Anderson have prevented him from playing nearer 100 Tests. He's the obvious choice for Lords, therefore will likely be left out again.

Controversially I'd bring in Woakes to replace Stokes, who is a luxury given his current fitness. He can barely bowl and his injury is affecting the batting.

He bowled a total of 14 overs. And whilst he bowled OK and did a job, we need more from your 3/4 pace option. Especially given the presumably flat nature of wickets this summers weather will provide.

I rate and love a fully fit Stokes, but a half fit Stokes is a luxury we can't afford when we've got adequate replacements twiddling their thumbs.

I walked away from the ground thinking (for all the talk of missed chances), there were the fewest opportunities ive ever seen over 5 days.  No chance of any run outs, few balls beating the bat, barely any edges to slip. Somehow it was a wonderful game despite all that.
That said, i see the plan but I was gutted when we declared with Root seeing it like a beachball. Never give a sucker an even break is my motto, and if he is Australian, then you stand on his throat. Finally, without looking for excuses as we lost fair and square, we need a cracking medical team as there ain't a lot of bowling choices. I'd have had Wood in for Edgbaston and the Oval, Robinson for the pitches that swing such as  OT, Heading (and places like Trent Bridge). Then again,  hindsight makes everything clear. Can't wait, sadly not a ticket available anywhere without paying 000s.
Day 5 tickets available at headingley. £25, returnable if no play.

Spot on Chesh, even KP who was one of the most maverick and entertaining batsmen of his generation has said in an Ashes series it’s about results over entertainment.
