RE: Aston Tel Aviv Protests - Baggiejacko - 01-08-2026

No one is doubting the difficulties that went with this game but WMP have been caught out lying about the reasons or at best only telling people the reasons if they asked the right questions. The fact that locals had threatened to mob up and cause problems was kept quiet. These actions cause mistrust and bad reactions as seen with summer riots. Time to always tell the truth

So have they 'been caught out lying' or have they answered the questions they were asked? It's been used as a political football and if you can see the reasoning behind the ban and agree with that reasoning then anything is is wind and politics.

A bit of spin worthy of any political party

I literally used your own words and repeated them back to you.

RE: Aston Tel Aviv Protests - Tom Joad 25 - 01-08-2026

(01-08-2026, 12:53 PM)baggy1 Wrote: The Police recognised that this game carried more than the standard football hooligan violence that can be managed through escorting, keeping behind and containing. They also recognised that the threat was more than the usual two football teams rivalries and the limited number of loons involved in thar. This was a lightning rod for two opposing ideologies that would be attracted for reasons other than football and involve a lot more Policing and segregating of individuals making the risk of injury or worse much higher.

In a standard game it is a case of segregating and protecting / policing one group - the away team supporters.

In this game you would have had:
The away team supporters
The home team wanky supporters
Those supporting Israel within the away support
Those supporting Israel within the home support
Those supporting Israel not attending the game but congregating for a protest around the ground
Those supporting Israel not attending the game but congregating for a protest away from the ground
Those supporting Palestine within the home support
Those supporting Palestine not attending the game but congregating for a protest around the game
Those supporting Palestine not attending the game but congregating for a protest away from the ground

The combinations of all or any of those coming together made the Policing of this near impossible and anyone who is asking for any other action than the Police took is basically gambling with another individual's life. The Police made the right call.

There was more than even that list. Your use of the term lightening rod for opposing ideologies, is bang on. I know 2 separate people that were at some of the meetings. One a steward -at Albion- as they were asked for assistance, another is in WM armed response team. There were a huge number of safety concerns all linked to those listed above. Even having to protect the ground for the week or more before the game, from intruders, from drones, explosives and more. Ultimately someone has to sign to say this match is 'safe'. Who would do that? The rights and wrongs are evident on both sides but in the end the decision was made to keep everyone from harm.

So those nasty football fans were suspected of possible acts of terrorism?

Nobody has said that at all, but read what you will.

RE: Aston Tel Aviv Protests - Baggiejacko - 01-08-2026

Everything has been said or implied except the truth. Local mob threatened to play merry fuck up if the away fans came and the spineless police shat themselves. WMP chose the easy option and lied about the reasons. Mob rules apply there. Football lost

It wouldnt have been a problem for the Peaky Blinders to sort out

RE: Aston Tel Aviv Protests - baggy1 - 01-08-2026

All I've tried to do here is highlight what issues with the fixture were, way beyond any 'local mobs' causing a bit of aggro. There were national groups from both sides threatening to turn up and protest, there is as Tom highlights many other reasons that spread beyond matchday. If you still think this was just the police being spineless because some Muslims in Aston objected then you are mistaken. The Police made the right decision.
