I see the game at Madrid is now behind closed doors. Makes you think the WM police were actually positive in ensuring fans could attend and the game went ahead as it did. Either that or the Spanish are also anti semitic.

The determined efforts of certain MP Friends of Israel to get heads of the WMP fired over this are deeply, deeply unpleasant. WMP made absolutely the right call for all involved.

It's the Dutch that dropped them in it

Such facets of cancel culture are exercised far and wide and are all to often allowed to go unchecked through the fear they instill

Indeed, it absolutely is about instilling fear. The police made a decision they didn't like and are being dragged though the mid for it as a punishment and a warning to others.

The other issue is that politicians, who are meant to represent the interests of this country, seems to have actually wanted people in Birmingham subjected to racist chanting and abuse, if not worse. It wasn't just about Maccabi fans and locals, it was also Tommy Robinson and many other far right thugs who were going on MN to attend. Rather than have that happen, WMP and the local council came to a solution which kept everyone safe and allowed the match to proceed.

Underlying all this, is that after years of complaining that the Muslim community doesn't integrate, when Muslims work within system, that isn't liked either. The person they would really like to unseat is Ayoub Khan.

Anyone with a liberal bone in their body would like to unseat Ayoub Khan.

It's an absolute disgrace. Maccabi fans should have been allowed to attend. If certain Maccabi fans misbehaved, they should be dealt with by the police. If certain members of the community and followers of Tommy Robinson misbehaved, they should also be dealt with by the police. Not so long ago the police had to deal with about 5000 Albion fans in the top of the North stand for an FA cup game so they could easily deal with this. There should be no discrimination for fans wanting to go and support their own football team in a British football stadium.

Out of interest, why do you think the Spanish police have deemed that the game there needs to take place behind closed doors?

In a perfect world I’d agree with you, fans should always be facilitated to attend. Where safe.

The local tail wagged the WMP dog which in turn meowed. A distinct lack of spine and ability to control shown with a touch of lying bastards.

The Police recognised that this game carried more than the standard football hooligan violence that can be managed through escorting, keeping behind and containing. They also recognised that the threat was more than the usual two football teams rivalries and the limited number of loons involved in thar. This was a lightning rod for two opposing ideologies that would be attracted for reasons other than football and involve a lot more Policing and segregating of individuals making the risk of injury or worse much higher.

In a standard game it is a case of segregating and protecting / policing one group - the away team supporters.

In this game you would have had:
The away team supporters
The home team wanky supporters
Those supporting Israel within the away support
Those supporting Israel within the home support
Those supporting Israel not attending the game but congregating for a protest around the ground
Those supporting Israel not attending the game but congregating for a protest away from the ground
Those supporting Palestine within the home support
Those supporting Palestine not attending the game but congregating for a protest around the game
Those supporting Palestine not attending the game but congregating for a protest away from the ground

The combinations of all or any of those coming together made the Policing of this near impossible and anyone who is asking for any other action than the Police took is basically gambling with another individual's life. The Police made the right call.
