RE: Flag shaggers - Protheroe - 08-28-2025 But all those countries are managing their borders more effectively or far more effectively than UK is, which is all that matters BB. The only question is, why? As for accountability, that works several ways. Ultimately the government will be accountable to the electorate who, not unfairly, expect the power of the state to be applied as it is being applied in Denmark, Sweden & Germany amongst other states. For the record, I cannot blame anyone who lives in a failed state for wanting a better life. But the hard truth is that we are barely supporting the population that we have, a task that gets more difficult by the year and for which we require controlled immigration of workers from around the world (with which I have no problem). However the ultimate extension of our current policy is that our door is open to anyone from anywhere that's a bit shit that can afford to get on a boat. RE: Flag shaggers - baggy1 - 08-28-2025 The worrying point BB is that the masses see these solutions to non-problems as the only way forward without lifting the veil. The narrative that 4% of all immigration, not population, is the reason we are short of houses shows the switching off of the brain. Then encouraging rioting against all of the asylum seekers because a tiny proportion of any crime is committed by these individuals whilst ignoring the same crime multiplied many times by residents in the same area again defies the logic. The ‘they don’t integrate’ line being pumped out getting mixed win with the asylum seekers narrative because it suits that narrative and where people ae being led by the nose to ‘removing ECHR’ is astounding short sighted. RE: Flag shaggers - Baggiejacko - 08-28-2025 So how doesn't 28 thousand people arriving here in small boats this year alone affect the housing crisis negatively? RE: Flag shaggers - baggy1 - 08-28-2025 in a population of 65M the problem isn't the 28k that are generally housed in hotels RE: Flag shaggers - Jacko - 08-28-2025 If we are going to leave the ECHR, as now looks inevitable, surely B1 you'd prefer this Labour government to oversee it, than an incoming Reform regime? The only question is, why? https://www.foreignaffairs.com/germany/warnings-weimar You should read that about "accountability" of the government, this is especially true in a country where a majority is not needed to control all power. And our door isn't open to anyone from anywhere, it's only open to people who can get here to claim asylum. We don't process asylum claims from embassies, we don't process asylum claims from refugee camps. We're short of over 4 million homes since 1985. The actual problem here is we don't build the houses, not bloody immigrants regular or irregular. If we leave the ECHR then we are lost - the fact that this has been pushed to anywhere near the top of the agenda is criminal whoever oversees it. The narrative that it is inevitable is also one that is being pushed by those that want it. The 'well, it doesn't apply to me' approach is equally stupid if you only take a glance over the pond to see how the courts are being driven politically, the ECHR, an independent body above any one government is the safety net, not the obstacle. RE: Flag shaggers - Jacko - 08-28-2025 So burying our head in the sand is the way to go. The key to leaving the ECHR is what domestic legislation replaces it. I for one don't want Farage and his paymasters determining that. Not a can to kick down the road imo. Latest polling has Reform higher than than the Reds and Blues combined (34/18/15). RE: Flag shaggers - Baggiejacko - 08-28-2025 I'm still waiting for an explanation on how immigration doesn't affect the housing crisis today rather than who or what caused it.
