RE: '24 Transfer Speculation Thread - wbamitch - 08-16-2024 Some rumours on Twitter that Callum Styles is coming with Mo Faal going to Barnsley. Local Barnsley reporter put this out earlier today: BARNSLEY want to sign up to three strikers in the final fortnight of the transfer window while Callum Styles looks very likely to leave the club. Styles could be set for a permanent move to a Championship club with negotiations thought to have reached an advanced stage earlier this week. But it is a complicated situation with, potentially, a striker joining the Reds in the opposite direction. RE: '24 Transfer Speculation Thread - SW4Baggie - 08-16-2024 I'd be really surprised if we signed Styles as he's predominantly been a left sided wing back or winger and I'm not sure if that role is one we need to push for given we have Heggem and Fabrotta at the back and Grant, Grady and Dobbin for left side of midfield. Not sure which of those he's better than either... he can cross a ball mind. I cannot imagine for one moment that we will have both of Grady and Grant here by the end of the transfer window. Both are high earners. I suspect either Grady will be sold, or Grant will be foing out on loan, but obviously we need to get a replacement in first, ie Styles. Can only sell players that teams want, and I can’t see anyone paying what Grant is getting here - very few Champ clubs could match his wages, and those that could won’t want him, unless someone like Hull get desperate on deadline day. Grady a funny one - we either need to get him to renew or move him on- but his injury has come at the wrong time. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him run his deal down here, there’s very little benefit to him leaving this summer IMO. Something Carlos said in the pre-match presser yesterday might be relevant here: "We lost Asante, Okay and Townsend. In the left back position from the last year, we lost Townsend and Reach. We bring in Frabotta but still there is a gap there. If I consider Heggem as a left back, probably the centre back position in the role of Pieters. We can see if we can do the same profile of player as Okay". The rest of what he said regarding incoming players was: "we have the need of three or four options. If you know the players that we have lost, it gives you a possibility in terms of the needs that we have to cover...we wanted to have three strikers like last year with Weimann, Maja and Asante who finished. We still need to replace Asante. We need to arrive to some level of players that allow us to be a competitive team. Of course, in the process to find these players, you need to do it according to your possibilities. During all the summer, we have been having at least one video meeting between the owner, the CEO, Ian Pearce (head of football operations) and me once per week. I think I talk with Ian on the phone probably more than my wife! We speak every single day normally. I always like to spend time with the recruitment department because it is important to work together. I never recruit the players, my work is to prepare the players. But it is important to let them know the needs that you have. As a coach, I always like to have the players the first day of pre season. We all know our possibilities and I know how much they work to achieve the best thing that we can achieve according to our possibilities. In football, the summer is one of the most important moments of the season and the summer for me will finish August 30. It will finish that day when we make the squad because for me our competitive possibilities depend a lot about the players we have". I wouldn't rule out Styles. Grady is a 10 or a right sided forward if needs be. Always ineffective on the left. Bobbins and Fellows can play both sides. Wallace right, Styles/Grant left. With styles able to cover at fullback too. Would make sense. Heggem can just be classed as a CB then. Wouldn't be surprised to see Grant go on loan again. RE: '24 Transfer Speculation Thread - Majas magic - 08-16-2024 Hull & Birmingham linked with Styles today. RE: '24 Transfer Speculation Thread - Sliced - 08-16-2024 Styles has played quite a bit at CM as well. Would be good cover in a couple of positions |
