Definitely, although I would be slightly worried if the alternatives to Mowatt and Molumby are Diakite (on the evidence so far) and a 19 year old with only Serie C experience. That's not to say either aren't or won't be good enough, but it's a position I'd like us to fill with some experience personally. Isaac Hayden was linked last week and I think he wouldn't be a bad shout on loan

Hayden would have been a great signing….six years ago.

Had a good loan spell at QPR last season from Jan onwards and they want him back again, he's also only 29. We need to address the gap left by Yokuslu. I'm well behind the new transfer strategy but some balance is required too I think, especially for a Corberan team who will want his midfielders to be solid out of possession

Hayden a huge no - 29, big wages for a short term loan for cover, exactly the type of signing we shouldn't be making.

We need to fire up the Bologna-base!

Do agree with your point in general and Hayden might not have been the best example but I don't think a loan for a 19 year old with no buy option is the answer to our DM problems either

I have no issue at all with a one-season loan of a 29 year old.  Certainly wouldn’t want to buy him though.  A crucial difference.

Given the volume of players lost we now need the remaining players to be able to start straight away - we still need at least 4 of them. No point in bringing in a youngster on loan now who could take 2/3 months to come up to speed for us - they have to make impacts now, otherwise the season could really have peaked on Saturday

No I agree with this also.

If we’re loaning younger players we should have an option on the loan. We will miss out on possible signings, and ruling out expensive wages on experienced players for a year will also hamper us in the short term, but after the last 3 seasons every penny we now spend has to be seen as a longer term investment for profit.

Spot on

A lot of wishful thinking being made about loans and assumptions about Hayden.

If a team really rates a player then you aren't going to get a loan option to buy them, just like we don't give all the clubs we loan to an option.

Regarding Hayden, he's so far down the pecking order at Newcastle that Woody woodpecker couldn't find him at their training ground, let alone at Saint James's park.

As such, I think they would pay most, if not all all of his wages, to get him gone.

We can't just limit ourselves to one category of player and we have to keep an open mind on age and resale, if the budget allows it.

If the budget doesn't allow the transfer then move on, but we can't limit ourselves to just loans with an option and players of a certain youngish age.

If that is the case why is he not at QPR, where he finished last season. Played in the last 17 games for them but only the full game in two of them

RE: '24 Transfer Speculation Thread - Ted Maul - 08-14-2024

We're in a position where we need bodies as much as we need quality. We're definitely not in a position where we're able to sign improvements on what we've already got with each signing, it's perfectly OK to have a few carefully placed stocking filler signings which is what someone like Hayden would be. Similar to McNair, there to be called upon if required and means we're not down to the bare bones if we lose a couple to injury.
