RE: UK Covid death toll - Ted Maul - 02-21-2022 JOK - in defence of Dekka I don't think he's asking for the country to be hobbled by wearing a mask and not going to the shops if you're testing positive for Covid. Pretty basic stuff that if anything, will keep society healthier and freer that no restrictions whatsoever. Pretty basic stuff that if anything, will keep society healthier and freer that no restrictions whatsoever. This - and also it would help if there appeared to be a plan for those that were still vulnerable. That may be with better education and knowledge sharing - a number of those may be scared without reason as they may be protected but education / information is obviously lacking. Also the testing that is being carried out helps us to identify new variants and build up in cases that gives us time to react. Abandoning all measures does leave us vulnerable to the unrestricted spread of this again and the point this is happening is bizarre. Give it another few weeks to get us into spring and we stand a better chance of getting into the warmer months and continuing the benefits that we have worked so hard to gain. RE: UK Covid death toll - Birdman1811 - 02-21-2022 Anyone who thinks now is the time to just throw all caution to the wind and pretend Covid doesn't exist is either stupid, or evil. Since I'm happy to say our government currently fills both criteria, easy to see why they are. Pretty basic stuff that if anything, will keep society healthier and freer that no restrictions whatsoever. I think most who are still vulnerable know they are and it isn’t about education. They will have been on shielding lists, identified by specialists. Yes you may get a few that aren’t and are overly worried but they will be in the minority. Shielding lists were scrapped but the people on them didn’t go away. For example you can’t just say my child is at risk therefore give me the vaccine they have to have supporting letters from their specialists and or GP to get anywhere near local CCG’s agreeing they can have the vaccine. This may change now after they announced all 5-11 year olds can have the jab. However they are at least 6-8 weeks away from a second vaccine dose and by any calculation that is throwing their safety under a bus. I think somewhere along the way the constant drip drip ‘all the vulnerable have had the vaccine’ has really skewed peoples perception of where many thousands of families actually are with the vaccination program and younger children. RE: UK Covid death toll - Ted Maul - 02-24-2022 So, the end of Covid 'restrictions' as we know them from today and another 5 weeks to stock up on enough tests before they start charging you for them! RE: UK Covid death toll - wba13 - 02-24-2022 Covid now is what it is, my family are treating this as we have all the way though this pandemic we go to shops we wear a mask we go to any indoor event not family, we wear masks. If we have engaged with anyone that we know who gets Covid we get tested. We will be ultra careful for a while yet. I still don’t agree with those who have not had the vaccine and any I know I try not to engage with. We have a decent life my wife has fully recovered from her Cancer and we do most things we did before Covid now except with caution. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 02-24-2022 This is where we're at 13, we're very likely to have to have my MIL move in over the next few days, she has COPD and has just had a heart attack and a week in hospital which she is struggling to recover from. We wear masks when out and about at the shops and are limiting our social to as little as needed. I'm hoping that over the next couple of months things improve to not needing to do this, both in spread of the virus and the weather allowing us more freedoms, but in the meantime we are dealing with it as best as we can. Most important things first: the news about your wife's progress is the best part of my day so far, and I've been for a nice bracing walk. I'm with you when it comes to masks - wearing them when it feels appropriate; as much for the comfort and protection of others as for myself. It's a minor courtesy and minimal inconvenience. And I share your sentiments re masks. |
