RE: UK Covid death toll - Protheroe - 02-13-2022

Well quite.

A story on the radio yesterday about a woman unable to see a GP, couple of useless telephone consultations, heads to A&E and given painkillers, heads back to A&E several times - finally admitted and diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian cancer.

There will be a tidal wave of these stories over the coming months.

The vulnerable aren't worth less. Neither are they worth more, which - amongst your raging polemic - seems to be your contention.

The idea that some find testing, self isolating and wearing a mask an imposition when cases are still high and vulnerable children under 11 for example still haven’t been fully vaccinated suggests they do think they are worth more. It certainly suggests they care more about themselves than others.

Also how does a cancer, transplant patent, CEV patient / person recovering / managing their health problems stay safe from the dangers of Covid without any knowing if those around them have Covid? This isn’t a cold or the flu as much as some try and make out.

Yep my last post was a rant, at people who pick and choose when they care about waiting times for NHS, pretend they care about vulnerable childrens education and start talking about the lack of mental health workers when they have spent years as cheerleaders, apologists and sycophants for a party that has seen waiting times for operations go up significantly before Covid, cut youth services up and down the country and never addressed the problems in mental health provision with anything but a sticking plaster or glib statement of intent.

Who does this sound like?

The Nightingale Hospitals were commissioned, erected, kitted out and ready for use in a couple of weeks.  So no waiting (list) there.  It turned out to be another gigantic c*ck up by this government, a complete mis-reading of the situation where no expense was spared to give contracts to their buddies to the detriment of the folk on the waiting lists.

Can I hazard a guess at what you would have said if these hadn't been put in place and the situation escalated to such a point to which all the beds in those hospitals were necessary?

They were necessary, they never had the staff to run them. This was known at all levels but ignored for a PR stunt. Hospitals had to use non-respiratory and non-ICU wards to find beds for covid patients meaning other treatments had to be postponed. My niece was in Walsgrave after a big car accident at the start of that year and had to be sent home early to get beds available. Let's not rewrite history or forget what a shambles we were in at the start of 2020.

And you don't? Of course not

Continued fall in numbers for all regions apart from the South West over the last 7 week. Falls range from 19% in the North West to 5% in the South East with the South West being the smallest numbers for a region anyway and the 2% increase actually means an extra 13 people in hospital.

A combined fall of 11% for England has put us under 10k for the 1st time since the end of December and a pretty constant fall in numbers since the peak of 17k on the 10th January. Moving in the right direction still.

How dare you accuse anyone of “pretending to care “ about  children’s education and mental health or NHS waiting times, when you do not know them or their circumstances?

Give me a quote where or when I have  “ spent years as cheerleader, apologists and sycophant for a partyany party. Go on Mr. “I’m not a football supporter type” of political animal. Shouldn’t be difficult, I make nowhere near the voluminous amounts of posts you inflict us with, on the political board “which is just a “Football forum” as you tell us! And they are certainly not full of bile ridden, doom mongering, biased, inaccurate rants.

Who does THAT sound like?

By the way, I’ll give you a ‘heads up’, pointing out inaccuracies, exaggerations, bias and hypocrisy, is not “cheerleading” for anyone.

I notice you deflect again by using a personal attack rather than addressing the points made. Go on, give us all the benefit of your massive wisdom and tell us how all the problems I listed can be solved whilst still having the country hobbled as you would have us.

Surely, people with a parlous state of health have to take relevant precautions at all times, against all sorts of issues, not just since Covid.

How long do you want schools shut?  How long do you want the economy hindered?  How long do you want the 68 million people of the U.K.  locked away?

Did I name you in my post? No.

Did I say anything about lockdowns? No.

Did I say anything about closing schools? No.

Do I think it’s a bit rich of those who have campaigned for votes for Conservatives to suddenly declare how concerned they are for the welfare of the most vulnerable children now after ten years of cuts to services that would have helped those children? Yes.

Do I think that no testing and no isolation will help children who are vulnerable to Covid? No!

Have those children who are vulnerable to Covid under 11 had both doses of the vaccine yet? No.

Do I think testing should continue? Yes.

Do I think that people should self isolate to keep others safe? Yes.

Do I think schools should continue to have safety measures in place against Covid? Such as mask wearing at times of high infection, air purifiers, children not going to school whilst infectious? Yes.

Do I think keeping some safety measures in place like the ones I’ve mentioned would help those who are vulnerable from specifically Covid? Yes.

Is anyone locked away? No ffs!

Is the economy hobbled by Covid now? No more so than another rather large drain on business we have signed up to.
