RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 01-30-2022 Absolutely with you there chunk, one thing that looking at holidays highlighted is how well we are off compared with the rest of the world. Loads of restrictions still out there especially with the ‘poorer’ countries. I guess it is a reminder that no-one is out of it until we are all out of it. I’ve been saying for a couple of years that looking at cases means diddly squat and that still stands. There was an interesting graphic last week somewhere showing the breakdown of those in hospital with covid and because of covid. Obviously they are still important figures because anyone testing positive in a hospital will have to be segregated from the normal population but the actual numbers because of covid was a lot lower than the 16k. It is nervy though, for example my MIL has COPD and we have to be careful but we are very hopeful that these tablets that can be given to covid patients make our lives even more relaxed. She’s jabbed up and we get out as much as we can but we test regularly and are very conscious of any symptoms. RE: UK Covid death toll - Kit Kat Chunky - 01-30-2022 Do you watch John Collins on YouTube, Baggy? The BBC have called him out in their reality check series, for his report on the FOI data. He looked quite upset about their report. RE: UK Covid death toll - baggy1 - 02-04-2022 We must be very close to the end of this now, where hospitalisation is at its highest the numbers have dropped including an incredible 26% in the North West. North East has seen a drop of 14%, Midlands and London 9% each and the East of England seeing 6%. Both the South East and the South West have seen a plateauing of numbers (up 1% each) but with an accumulated 11% drop in the whole country and numbers around the 12k mark we are definitely moving in the right direction. Added to that over 65% of the population over 12 having had a booster jab (a % of them actually can't have it yet as well I believe which makes the numbers appear lower) and 85% having had 2 jabs we are in a good position going into the warmer months. Good. I was wondering why my kids both had to have yet another week away from school with nothing worse than the sniffles. RE: UK Covid death toll - Derek Hardballs - 02-09-2022 This is why you selfish xxxx ! Bereaved families say government is 'opening the floodgates for COVID-19' COVID-19 Bereaved Families for Justice has hit out at the government's aim to end self-isolation requirements this month. "Whilst the Prime Minister is bragging about lifting restrictions a month early, we’re struggling to keep up with the number of hearts that need to be drawn on the Covid Memorial Wall," the group wrote on Twitter. They pointed out that nearly 2,000 people are still dying from COVID each week. "The Prime Minister might wish that this disease was no more dangerous than the flu, but the reality is that he is throwing the most vulnerable in our society to the wolves," they said. "Just as [Downing Street] partied whilst the rest of us endured brutal lockdowns, they are once again opening the floodgates for Covid-19, with others being left to suffer the deadly consequences." Ending COVID restrictions will cause 'huge anxiety' and 'complicated concerns' for vulnerable population, charity says Blood cancer charity Myeloma UK has said the announcement by Boris Johnson to end COVID restrictions will cause "huge anxiety" and "complicated concerns" for the clinically extremely vulnerable population, writes Ian Sale. Jo Nove, the charity's acting chief executive, added: "We cannot allow those who are vulnerable to be forgotten as the world opens back up. “Myeloma patients are much more likely than the average person to contract COVID-19 and significantly less likely to have a strong immune response to a COVID-19 vaccination. "There is currently no way to determine which patients have received sufficient protection from vaccines. "This makes the lifting of social distancing and protection measures a highly stressful time for them. “Immunocompromised patients have no way of knowing the level of risk they face as they go about their day-to-day lives. "Returning to a place of work, doing the food shop, or dropping the children off at school all mean additional exposure with potentially serious consequences. "This is especially concerning if there is no longer a legal requirement to self-isolate and we rely on people doing the right thing and staying home when they are ill." RE: UK Covid death toll - Ted Maul - 02-09-2022 Not going out unnecessarily when you've got a highly contagious illness seems a pretty small price to pay to keep society functioning as normally as it is currently. Because the government's response to schools has been about not doing anything and hoping it would go away. No air purifiers, no mixed teaching spaces, no online learning resources, no staggered and modular exams, no online teaching protocols. Just OpEn ThE wInDoWs. |
